How to Balance the Axial Force of the Slurry Pump?

The axial force balance of the slurry pump is a key design consideration, which ensures stable operation of the slurry pump and extends its service life. Generally speaking, the axial force balance of the slurry pump can be achieved through the following methods:

How to Balance the Axial Force of the Slurry Pump? 1

Impeller symmetrical arrangement

By adopting a symmetrical arrangement structure of a double suction impeller or a multi-stage impeller, the axial forces generated on both sides of the impeller can be cancelled out to achieve the purpose of balancing the axial forces. This arrangement can effectively reduce the vibration and noise problems of the pump caused by axial force imbalance.

Balance drum device

A balance drum is installed on the pump shaft, forming an annular gap between the balance drum and the pump body. When the slurry pump is running, the high pressure liquid passes through this gap and enters the other side of the balance drum, creating a balance force opposite to the axial force. The size and clearance of the balance drum needs to be precisely designed to ensure optimal balance. The balance drum device can improve the operating efficiency of the slurry pump and reduce mechanical failures caused by axial force imbalance.

Balance disc device

The balance disc is similar to the balance drum, but it can automatically adjust the magnitude of the balance force according to changes in the axial force. When the axial force changes, the gap between the balance plate and the balance seat will change accordingly, thereby automatically adjusting the balance force. The balance disc has a high sensitivity, but its structure is relatively complex. The use of a balanced disk device can effectively solve the problem of axial force imbalance and ensure the stable operation of the slurry pump.

Thrust bearing bearing

For smaller axial forces, axial forces can be subjected to the selection of thrust bearings that can withstand axial load. Thrust bearings can improve the balance of axial forces by reducing axial clearance or increasing the bearing support stiffness. Choosing the right thrust bearing is of great significance to improve the operating efficiency of the pump and extend the service life of the pump.

Impeller back blade

A back blade is provided on the rear cover of the impeller. When the impeller rotates, the pressure generated by the back blade can offset a portion of the axial force. The design of the back blade needs to fully consider the structure and fluid dynamic characteristics of the impeller, so that the axial force generated by the back blade can effectively offset the axial force generated by the impeller. By setting up the impeller back blade, the axial force burden of the pump can be reduced and the operation stability and reliability of the pump can be improved.
