Bending of the slurry pump shaft can cause imbalance in the rotor and wear between moving and stationary parts. Place small bearings on V-shaped irons and large bearings on roller supports to secure them. Then mount the dial indicator, with the indicator rod pointing toward the shaft centre. Slowly rotate the pump shaft. If there is bending, the dial gauge will show a maximum and minimum reading per revolution (the difference between the two readings indicates the maximum radial runout of the shaft, known as deflection). The shaft bending degree is half of the deflection. The radial runout of the shaft should not exceed 0.05 mm at the centre and 0.02 mm at both ends.
