How To Select Slurry Pumps, What Are The Basis And Principles?

As a relatively "trendy" liquid delivery pump valve, many users prefer to use it. Due to the diversity of use areas, many users have derived a variety of models. Many users don’t know which model to choose. After all, it’s a waste to choose a smaller model, and it’s not enough to deliver the flow. So, as a user, would you choose it?And follow the manufacturer CNSME to learn more about how to select the model, what is the basis, and what principles are...

Selection basis

1. The selection of a slurry pump must first be based on the liquid conveying volume, that is, the flow rate, usually based on the maximum flow rate, taking into account the normal flow rate. When there is no maximum traffic, generally speaking, it is enough to take 1.1 times the normal traffic as the maximum traffic.

2. The choice of head generally requires a backup head with amplification of 5%-10%.

3. Understand the properties of the liquid, including the name of the liquid medium, chemical properties (corrosiveness, pH, thermal stability, etc.) and other properties; physical properties (temperature, viscosity, particulate matter, etc.).

4. There are also requirements for pipeline layout, referring to the liquid delivery height, liquid delivery distance, liquid delivery direction, pipeline length and material, etc., so as to calculate the pipe loss and check the cavitation allowance.

5. Also, operating conditions, such as altitude, ambient temperature, whether the pump is operating gap or continuous, and whether the pump position is fixed or mobile.

Principles of slurry pump selection

1. First of all, the type and performance of the water pump must be ensured, and it must meet the requirements of process parameters such as flow, head, pressure, temperature, cavitation flow, and suction.

2. The characteristics of the conveying medium itself must be met.

3. In terms of machinery, high reliability, low noise and low vibration.

4. The material of the water pump must meet the on-site working conditions, and the more expensive the better.

5. For water pumps that convey corrosive media, corrosion-resistant materials are required for overflow components.

6. For water pumps that convey flammable, explosive, toxic or valuable media, the shaft seal is required to be reliable or a leak-free water pump.

7. In terms of cost, equipment procurement costs, operation costs, maintenance costs and management costs should be comprehensively considered, and the overall costs should be relatively low.

8. For water pumps that transport solid particles, wear-resistant materials are required for overflow components, and if necessary, the shaft seal needs to be flushed with cleaning liquid.

How to Select the Inlet and Outlet Pipe Diameters for Slurry Pumps
This article focuses on the selection of inlet and outlet pipe diameters for slurry pumps, aiming to prevent cavitation, avoid blockage, and reduce system energy consumption. It outlines the fundamental design principle that the inlet pipe diameter shall not be smaller than the pump suction diameter, while the outlet pipe diameter shall be matched to flow rate and head requirements. By integrating slurry characteristics, pump performance parameters, and pipeline configuration, the article presents practical pipe sizing approaches and operation-based verification methods, providing technical guidance for stable and reliable slurry pumping systems.
