Can mechanical seals be used in slurry pumps for easily crystallized ore pulp?

Solid particles or crystals in the slurry may be deposited in the dynamic/static ring gap of the mechanical seal, causing the sealing face to wear, seize or fail. Crystals in the slurry can also build up in the spring gap, impeding the compensating movement of the spring and causing the sealing faces to fail to fit (leakage) or to overpress (overheat wear). Therefore mechanical seals with springs are not suitable for slurries that crystallize easily.

It is recommended to use: expeller + packing seal: the expeller generates centrifugal force to block particles from entering the sealing area, the packing seal is low-cost and resistant to a certain amount of crystallization (regular maintenance is required).
