When the Slurry Pump Is Inverted, Should the Pump Be Stopped First Or the Pump Is Started First?

The operation of slurry pump inverted pump is usually to start the pump first and then stop the pump. The specific reasons are as follows:

When the Slurry Pump Is Inverted, Should the Pump Be Stopped First Or the Pump Is Started First? 1

Maintain system operation stability: Start the backup pump first, which can ensure the delivery of slurry without interruption or minimize interruption time, so that the entire process flow can continue to operate stably. For example, in the slurry conveying system of a mine or ash removal system of a power plant, if the running pump is stopped first, it may cause the slurry or ash to deposit in the pipeline, affecting subsequent transportation, and even blocking the pipeline. The first-start pump can allow the system to maintain a certain flow and pressure during the pump reversing process to prevent such situations.

Protection equipment: First start the backup pump, and after its operation is stable and the pressure, flow and other parameters reach the normal range, slowly close the outlet valve of the original running pump, and then stop the original pump. This can avoid impact and damage to the pipeline, pump body and other equipment caused by sudden stopping of the pump.

The specific operation process of slurry pump inverter pump is generally as follows:

Preparation: Check whether the equipment status of the backup pump, including lubricating oil level, bearing condition, seal condition, etc. are normal, and manual wheeling ensures no clamping; check whether the inlet and outlet valves are flexible and reliable, whether the pipeline connection is firm, and whether there are leakages, etc.; confirm that the electrical system is normal and the motor steering is correct.

Start the backup pump: Open the inlet valve of the backup pump, close the outlet valve, and start the motor. After the pump is started, slowly open the outlet valve, and observe the pump pressure, flow rate, current and other parameters, as well as the operating sound and vibration of the pump body and motor, to ensure that the backup pump is operating normally.

Stop the original running pump: After the backup pump is stable, gradually close the outlet valve of the original running pump, observe changes in pipeline pressure and other parameters to ensure the stable operation of the system. When the outlet valve is completely closed, stop the motor of the original running pump and close its inlet valve.

Inspection and maintenance: After the inverting pump operation is completed, the deactivated pump is inspected and maintained, such as cleaning the residual slurry in the pump, checking for wear, etc., and preparing for the next use; at the same time, continue to observe the operating conditions of the pump and the entire system to ensure that everything is normal.
