Corrosion problem: Alkaline materials are corrosive and will cause chemical corrosion to the metal parts of the slurry pump. This corrosion not only affects the performance of the slurry pump, but may also shorten its service life. Due to the existence of alkaline corrosion, its alkali resistance needs to be considered when selecting the material of the slurry pump. Different alkaline materials and concentrations have different corrosion properties on the material, so it is necessary to select appropriate materials according to the specific working conditions to manufacture key components of the pump, such as pump housing, impeller, shaft seal, etc.

Material selection

Stainless steel: Slurry pump made of stainless steel, with certain alkali resistance. 304 stainless steel can maintain good stability in general weak alkaline environments. 316 stainless steel has stronger corrosion resistance, especially it has better resistance to alkaline solutions containing corrosive components such as chloride ions.

Alloy material: An alloy slurry pump developed for corrosion-resistant conditions such as acid and alkalinity, has excellent corrosion resistance, including alkali corrosion resistance. Can work stably in an alkaline environment with high concentration and high temperature.

Rubber: Some rubber materials, such as fluoro-rubber, ethylene-propylene rubber, etc., have good corrosion resistance to alkaline substances. Fluoroelastomer has good acid and alkali resistance and is used in the chemical industry to transport chemical slurries containing alkaline components. Ethylene-propylene rubber has good alkali resistance, and has good elasticity and wear resistance, which is suitable for transporting alkaline wastewater containing certain solid particles.

Operation and maintenance precautions

Regular inspection: Due to the corrosiveness of alkaline materials, it is necessary to regularly inspect all components of the slurry pump, especially key parts such as pump body, impeller, shaft seal, etc. Check the parts for signs of corrosion or wear. If corrosion pits, wear marks are found, timely measures should be taken, such as replacing the parts or repairing them.

Cleaning and maintenance: After the pump stops running, rinse the inside of the pump body with clean water or appropriate cleaning solution in time to remove residual alkaline materials to reduce the corrosion of the material on the pump. For pumps that have been deactivated for a long time, maintenance should be done, such as injecting anti-rust oil or other protective agents into the pump to prevent rust and corrosion of the parts.

Flow rate and pressure control: Rationally control the flow rate and pressure of the slurry pump to avoid the erosion and wear of alkaline materials on the pump due to excessive flow rate and excessive pressure. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the pump operates within the designed operating conditions to maintain its good performance and service life.
