The characteristics of the slurry pump pipe material such as mass, roughness, weight strength, etc. will have an impact on flow rate and head, mainly manifested in the following aspects:
1. Impact on traffic
The roughness of different materials affects flow rate: the surface roughness of the pipe material is different, which will affect the flow resistance of fluid in the pipe. Generally speaking, materials with high surface roughness, such as cast iron pipes, will increase the friction resistance of the fluid, thereby reducing the flow rate. Materials with smooth surfaces, such as stainless steel pipes or composite pipes lined with plastic, have low fluid flow resistance, which is conducive to increasing flow. In some working conditions where flow requirements are high, choosing pipes made of smooth materials can better meet the conveying needs.
The elasticity and deformation characteristics of the material affect flow stability: Some materials have certain elasticity, such as rubber pipes. During the operation of the slurry pump, the pressure changes in the pipe may cause the elastic material to slightly deform the pipe. This deformation may cause changes in the effective inner diameter of the pipe, which will affect the stability of the flow rate. For example, when the pressure fluctuates greatly, the rubber pipeline may expand or contract locally, causing the flow rate to fluctuate to a certain extent. Pipes made of rigid materials, such as steel pipes, have less deformation under normal working pressure and can maintain a relatively stable flow rate. For situations where precise flow control is required, rigid material pipes have more advantages.
2. Impact on the head
The weight and strength of the pipe material affects the head loss: Heavier pipe materials, such as cast iron pipes, require more support and fixation, which may increase the installation complexity and cost of the pipe system. At the same time, due to its large weight, large sagging deformation may occur during long-distance transportation, thereby increasing the resistance of the pipeline and increasing the head loss. High-strength materials, such as steel pipes, can withstand high internal pressures and reduce head losses due to pipeline rupture or leakage. Steel pipes are a common choice in some high-pressure, high-head slurry pump applications.
The corrosion resistance of the material affects the long-term stability of the head: If the conveyed slurry is corrosive, the corrosion resistance of the pipe material is particularly important. After long-term contact with corrosive media, the inner wall of the pipe will be corroded, thinned or even perforated, which will not only affect the flow rate, but also cause the head to fall. Corrosion-resistant materials, such as stainless steel pipes, plastic pipes or composite pipes lined with anti-corrosion materials, can maintain good performance in a corrosive environment and ensure long-term stability of the head.
