What Are the Reasons Why the Slurry Pump Runs but Does Not Absorb Water?

1. The pipeline is blocked. The suction pipeline of the slurry pump may be blocked by solid particles, debris, precipitates, etc., resulting in the inability to absorb water. Rust and scale on the inner wall of the pipe may also cause blockage. Especially when used for a long time without regular maintenance, rust and scale are easily formed on the inner wall of the pipeline, reducing the effective diameter of the pipeline, and affecting the water absorption capacity of the slurry pump.

2. Pipe leaks. If there is a leak in the suction pipe, the slurry pump will not be able to form a sufficient vacuum, so that it will not absorb water. Common air leakage points include poor sealing at the pipe connections, damaged flange gaskets, damaged pipes, etc. Poor sealing of the inlet valve of the slurry pump may also cause air leakage. If the valve is not closed tightly or the seal is damaged, air will enter the suction line from the valve, affecting the pump's water absorption effect.

3. The impeller is damaged. The slurry pump impeller is a key component in achieving water absorption and conveying media. If the impeller is damaged, such as wear, breakage, deformation, etc., it will seriously affect the water absorption performance of the pump.

4. Poor sealing. Poor sealing will cause air to enter the pump, destroying the vacuum of the pump, making it impossible for the pump to absorb water. If the sealing surface between the pump body and the pump cover is uneven or the seal is damaged, it will also lead to air leakage and affect the pump's water absorption performance.

5. Installation issues of slurry pump. The installation height of the slurry pump is too high, exceeding the allowable suction height of the slurry pump, which will make the slurry pump unable to absorb water. This is because the suction height of the slurry pump is limited. As the installation height increases, the pressure at the inlet of the slurry pump will decrease. When the pressure is lower than the vaporization pressure of the liquid, cavitation will occur, causing the pump to not absorb water normally. The inlet pipelines of the slurry pump are unreasonable, such as too many elbows and too long pipes, which will increase the resistance of the pipeline and reduce the pump's water absorption capacity.

6. Media issues. The temperature of the conveyed medium is too high, which may vaporize the medium and cause cavitation, resulting in the slurry pump not absorbing water. Too much viscosity of the medium will also affect the water absorption performance of the slurry pump. High viscosity media has a high flow resistance in the pipeline and is not easily sucked into the pump.

7. Operational problems. If the pump is not filled correctly before starting the slurry pump, that is, the pump is not filled with liquid, which will prevent the slurry pump from forming a sufficient vacuum when starting, resulting in no water absorption. During operation, if the inlet valve of the slurry pump is not fully opened or the outlet valve is not closed tightly, it will affect the water absorption performance of the slurry pump.
